Local Gymnast Crowned State
All-Around Champion
Champions Academy Gymnastics of Morgan Hill recently completed the compulsory
girls competitive season with a bang, crowning it’s
second state champion in as many weeks.
In her first year of competition
in gymnastics, nine year old Alexandra Dudschus
wowed the crowd at the Level 4 State Championship
meet, scoring 37.95 and becoming the All-Around
State Champion. Not only is she
the state champion in her age division, her score
was high enough to place her in the top six
in all age divisions combined, which was over
400 competitors. In addition to
winning the All-Around title, she was also the beam
champion and floor champion.
Training three days a week on her skills, her
determination and hard work paid off.
The competition had brought together all the
top Level 4 girls in the state, and Alexandra
finished on top.
Teammate Nikki Barsanti, a
thirteen year old, and also her first year in
competition, just missed finishing in the top spot
in her age division. Her first
event in the competition was the balance beam, but
unfortunately, her nerves got the best of her, and
she had a tough event. She was
able to put her frustrations behind her and rebound
on her remaining three events, taking second place
on bars and floor.
It was a great experience for the
first year competitors, and the future looks bright
for both girls, who are advancing to a higher level
of competition next year.
